Yes, we can host your band's music and allow for downloads. However before we may do this, we require a license permission form to be filled out and mailed back to us. To obtain this form, please email us at wmr@wildmountainradio.com.
No, registration is not required at WMR to listen to any of our streams. Registration is only required if you would like to post on our forums or use any of our "Member only" services that may be provided in the future.
No, since some members prefer not to receive any email from us, we have setup the mailing list as a seperate unit. So if you wish to receive updates from us, you will need to signup for the newsletters.
No. While we do not charge for access to our website or streams, we do ask for donations and provide links to merchants that pay us a commision on your purchases. Unfortunately, running a quality online station is not very cheap and takes up alot of our time. So yes, we do try to make money to be able to pay for bandwidth, pay our licensing obligations to artists / songwriters, purchase new equipment / music cd's and (hopefully) pay the people involved in providing you this station some sort of salary.
While you can run a station off a cheap dsl connection and a some MP3's relatively cheap, if you want to do it legally it can get quite expensive. Licensing fees alone to SoundExchange, SESAC, ASCAP and BMI can run more than $3,000.00 / year. Our listener streams can run several hundred dollars a month and then we need to add the cost of equipment, CD's, electricity, our internet connections and be able to pay our staff. When it is all said and done, Internet Radio is not cheap... But it is a hell lot cheaper than FM broadcasting and we don't have to deal with the FCC (yet).
While this can have many causes, the first thing you should check is the version of your player. If the current version available for download is much higher than your version, UPGRADE! (ex. if the current version of winamp is 5.50 and you are running 5.05) Winamp may have fixed a known bug in their software to improve your connectivity. Another issue this can cause is our software may kick or even ban your ip as spoofing an existing player is a common occurrence in streamripper software.
To comply with the DIGITAL MILLENNIUM COPYRIGHT ACT, all requests are delayed at least 1 hour.
Yes, your tax dollars at work (and quite a bit fromthe record companies), have joinged together to create a law to help "protect" copyrighted work in electronic formats.
Somewhere, someone thought by delaying a requested song for an hour or longer would prevent people from recording it (yeah right!). Duh! I'm so glad I pay my taxes.
Many ISP's have agressive email filters to stop the horde of spam out there (AOL for example), so sometimes the activation email is dropped into a spam folder or blocked folder that you will have to look for. Other simply drop the email entirely. If after 4 - 6 hours you have not yet received your activation email, send a message to wmr@wildmountainradio.com and we will activate it for you.
We randomly delay sending the song metadata out to help prevent the use of stream ripping software.
We'd be more than happy to accept music from from independent artists. All that we ask is that along with your music cd, you send a letter describing your band (type of music, where your from, etc.) and giving Wild Mountain Radio non-exclusive rights to play your music. Please make sure that the track list is included. If you send a data disk with the songs already encoded in MP3 format, make sure that the MP3's are done atleast 128k bitrate and that each song is correctly tagged with Artist, Album name, Song title and copyright year. If your band did not write the songs, please get permission from the song writer and have them sign the letter too. CD's can be sent to: WMR 46 Upper Dr. Buckhannon, WV 26201 *Note: Submission of CDs (or any music material) does not guarantee that said material will be aired, however you give Wild Mountain Radio the non-exclusive right to air any material that you send (unless otherwise stated and agreed upon).
Alternatively, single MP3's can be submitted through our website upload at UPLOADS (You must sign up for an account to use this feature). Again MP3's MUST be encoded at 128k bitrate or higher and MUST be properly tagged or the song will simply be deleted. Submission of songs in this manner assumes that you have the right to give Wild Mountain Radio the non-exclusive right to air any material that you send (unless otherwise stated and agreed upon).
No, we will not be playing "Slow Ride" by Foghat. If you would like to hear this song, please rent the movie Dazed and Confused :-)
Please direct them to our website or give them the information to send their cd to us from the above question. This helps keep WMR legal and allows us to get some background info on the group. When we feature an independent artist, we'll play a short blurb about them.
Absolutely not! We hate spam as much as you do. The only email you will get will be directly from this site. We will send out messages a few times each year with new site features or important information (scheduled downtime.. etc.). We have setup a newsletter system that will allow you to Opt in/Opt out of these messages.
Yeah we're here, just slow the last few weeks... My "paying" job has
had me running nearly 24/7 and Quagmire is dealing with a loss in his family.
Anyone here????
I've got enough of our stuff to do an hour easy......... anytime you'd like to
do it.
Hey man! Glad to see ya here.
When I started the Pennsylvania Rock Show, it was only a 1 hour long show... it
slowly expanded to 3 hours.
